Me? A Wellness Coach??
Before 2014, if people had told me, that I would someday be a crazy cat lady with a great home business wherein I would be motivating and encouraging people to get fitter and healthier, and mentor them to grow their own businesses… I would have told them they were OUTTA their minds!
When I started my very first home fitness program (Focus T25), it was not with a business in mind, at all – It was for ME. I had become morbidly obese, and I was so miserable, uncomfortable in my own skin, and just plain depressed. I had gotten warnings from my doctors about looming problems if I didn’t change my ways, and I was scared. I had tried a bunch of different things: crash diets, prepackaged chemical “foods” that came in the mail each month, diet pills – even prescription diet drugs that a doctor prescribed, cleanses and shakes made of fillers, I had tried diet programs where you pay to go to a meeting each week; I think the only thing I DIDN’T try before then, was EXERCISING consistently and eating clean with the support of friends.
So when I sent out a cry for help into the universe (ok, it was Instagram), my coach found me and asked me some hard questions about what I really wanted out of life, what my goals and dreams were, what did I expect to change once achieving those goals, whether I had a plan of action or if I needed help, etc. She also asked me about myself and took the time to get to know me. I saw that she posted about Shakeology, and I’d seen it mentioned before on Instagram, so I decided to ask her about it. She explained that it’s not a “weight loss shake” nor is it a “protein shake” but rather an all natural, nutrient dense superfood shake with all your macros included, and then some more great stuff – and you can use it to replace a meal or just for a snack, no rules! I was SO interested when she said they had a chocolate flavor, haha!!
At the time, I was on a “deployment” in Qatar, living on a military base in a small dorm-style room, so my space was limited, but I didn’t like going to the gym – I had been going to the gym since I’d arrived there, but I didn’t really know what I was doing, so I was having better results just from the consistent walking I was doing in the Qatar heat.
As I was chatting with my coach, I expressed an interest in a fitness program recommendation, but I was a little apprehensive, because I was morbidly obese, so I thought there would be no fitness program that would suit me. Since she knew my current limitations and knew about my personality and what I liked, she recommended Focus T25. The idea of embarking on a new fitness journey was, frankly, TERRIFYING; but I knew I had to do something. I wasn’t willing to give in to the risks of diabetes, heart disease, and all the side effects that my weight could bring with it, so when my coach recommended Focus T25, I thought, “Sure, why not?” It was only 25 minutes a day and if I hated it, I could just send it back anyway. So, I bundled it with a month of Shakeology and I was READY to take the plunge.
Fast forward 6 months; I had been drinking my Shakeology daily, working out consistently, and participating in our challenge groups for support and accountability, as well as sharing about my journey via social media… and now it was time for me to go home to the States. As soon as my friends and coworkers saw me, they just had to ask me what I had done to drop 60 pounds, and I was all too excited to share! It never felt like “selling,” because I only shared with those who were interested!
People would email me, text me, call me, send me messages on social media, all saying different things but the underlying theme was the same:
Suddenly, it became crystal clear to me, that this is what coaching is all about. Aside from the technical details of how to run a business – This is about HELPING people. It’s about showing others how to remove the shackles that have been placed on their ankles by living an unhealthy unbalanced life. If you have a good heart and you love to see others make positive changes, then this is the right business for you. You don’t have to be “into” fitness or be a nutritional wizard.
The various fitness programs that we offer are all created by fitness experts, scientists, nutritionists, etc – and it’s our job to guide people to be their best selves through the usage of these programs, giving them the support they need, and encouraging them to dig deep within themselves to help find (and fix) the root causes of their unhealthy habits.
Everyone I know believes in the programs that I use, because they’ve seen me transform! I’m not selling anything, but my transformation and new, fitter body is a walking billboard for the programs I’ve done. You can’t argue with visible results and a life transformed.
